Empurium

We went to visit the Greco-Roman Ruins at Empurium. It was originally an Iberian village. Then the Greeks set up a trading post here. During the Punic Wars the Romans landed here to cut of the Carthigian rear guard. After that they built a fort here to prevent future invasions. The Greeks and Romans both lived here for a while -- the Greek town closer to the water and the Roman fort overlooking it. The Roman walls enclosed the Greek city as well. The Greek jetty still survives. One in five of the women at the beach here were topless.
